Gotta Love CA

So we arrived Tuesday night here in CA. Bryn has slept through the since we have been here. It has been so nice. Wednesday night she slept from 8:30-8am. WOW!! I was so impressed. She has been behaving pretty well. She did really well as we sat through 2 graduations. Makenna has been a little rough, but hopefully she will calm down and chill.

Funny

The girls and I are in CA for my sister's and brother's graduations. Makenna wants to be just like them and wants to have a graduation too. But she was having a hard time saying graduation and was saying, "I want to have a castration too!." haha It was too funny. I quickly had to correct her.

Husbands!!!

So my husband has the only major credit card we have. I took it away from him over a month ago because he has this nasty habit of buying everything and anything he sees. So I have had the card now. I thought that that would stop the spending...NOPE...I was wrong. Tonight I checked the credit card balance and it was higher than it was a few days ago when I checked and I know I didn't use the card. I asked him how he could be buying things without the card and he has it stored on his website that he buys things on. So I changed his user ID and password and his secret question. So hopefully now he won't be wasting all off our money!!!!!

We went to the lake for about a day. We went up Thursday night, spent Friday on the water and came home Saturday. It was a lot of fun. Kimber came out from Utah and Steve and Dah were there. Kenna was like a fish. Every time the boat stopped she wanted in the water. She got in by herself...with a life jacket on...and swam around. The boys that were there were so nice to her. They were calling her Kenna bear and letting her play with them. She was the biggest flirt.

Bryn had her 6-month pictures taken last Thursday. Wendy did such a great job. There are a ton of pictures...it was hard to pick just a few to put on my blog. So here are a few of them. I think they are awesome. The girls look so pretty...but I am biased being their mother!

Tyler's Job

So after many requests from my lovely wife, I will explain what I am doing this summer for legal experience. I am an intern at the Oklahoma Court of Criminal Appeals. Oklahoma is one of two states to have a seperate supreme court for criminal law. So I get to put on a spiffy suit (preferrably a three piece suit), and travel down to the capital.

I'll try and describe the appellate process. When a criminal appeals his conviction the case comes to Court with the record. The record is everything that happened at trial as well as two specially written documents called briefs. One is from the defendant and one is from the state. The criminal alleges propositions of error, or in other words, the criminal alleges that someone screwed up at the trial court level and he deserves a new trial or a lesser sentence. Each judge is assigned a case and drafts a decision or opinion on the appeal(Case). The opinion circulates among the other judges. during this circulation time, a judge decides either to concur(agree) or dissent from the draft opinion. It takes three out of five judges to hand out an opinion. My personal job is to review these opinions and to inform my judge on whether he should concur or dissent.

Occasionally I get to do an extra fun assignment--RESEARCH MEMORANDUM. These memos are done to inform my judge on certain areas or topics of the law. I have been researching a special area of search and seizure law. Most of my time has been spent learning how to write specifically for my judge. The reason these assignments are a lot of fun is that there is a possibility that some of your personal research and writing can become part of your judge's writing. You don't get credit in the opinion, but you know that your work influenced the judge's writing.

Well I know this stuff sounds pretty dry for all you soccer moms, business dudes, and college students, but for me this is a great honor and hopefully this will lead to a good job after school.

The other night the girls and I went to hang out with Jen, Ryder and Diane. We let the kids play in the back yard with pudding. They were painting themselves with it and ran in the sprinkler! They had a blast. Ryder and Kenna play so well together. We also got Cash to sleep on the couch and Bryn was actually being good for someone other than me!! Thanks Jen!

Today we went swimming in Jan's pool for the first time of the summer. Makenna loved being in the water. It took Ryder a little bit of time to get used to it, but then he was like a fish. Makenna and Ryder played so hard all day. They both jumped off the diving board and had a blast. Bryn and Cash were pretty much chill. They hung out and took naps. Bryn went in the pool and wasn't too sure about it. She did start smiling and splashing and splashed herself. After that...she wasn't too happy. We had a blast!
